The glazing unit is fixed inside an existing timber frame to effect double glazing, being equipped with hinges, fixing screw and seals. It uses a timber frame (1) with a groove (2) for a glass pane (V) bedded in mastic (3), its opposite side being rebated (7) to locate the flush fitted plates of butt-hinges (8). The face presented to the existing frame is grooved (4) to locate the force fitted bulbous apex (5) of a relatively supple 'V' section seal. A 'V' section reference groove (11) locates fixing screws for non-hung edges, and each hinge may include a demountable pin accommodating left or right hand fixings.
