The present invention is an oxide containing Ce1-xZrxO2-δ (0 x 1 and 0 ≦ δ) and MFe 2 O 4 (M is a divalent metal element) having a spinel structure. The present invention includes Ce1-xZrxO2-δ (0 x 1, 0 ≦ δ) and a metal oxide having a spinel structure, and the metal oxide is contained in the grain boundary of the Ce1-xZrxO2-δ. And a layer including the oxide. The present invention is a method for producing an oxide containing Ce1-xZrxO2-δ (0 x 1 and 0 ≦ δ) and a metal oxide having a spinel structure, wherein the Ce1-xZrxO2-δ and the metal are produced. A process for producing an oxide, comprising the steps of: forming a complex of the metal from a salt of the metal constituting the oxide; and forming a polymer containing the complex, and carbonizing the polymer.
