Provided are a biomarker for the diagnosis of early stages of diabetic nephropathy, and a method for the diagnosis of early stages of diabetic nephropathy. The biomarker is S100A9 contained within urine extracellular vesicles (urine EV), which is significantly decreased in expression amount in the early stages of diabetic nephropathy compared to normal people. The diagnosis method of the present invention is non-invasive, possessing great application prospects.
