To provide a method for producing a partially-finished fiber bundle capable of continuously splitting a fiber bundle for a long time and stably, even when a splice portion is present in the partially-finished fiber bundle, and a method for producing an intermediate substrate or molded article using the same do. To this end, when a fiber bundle having a splice portion formed by joining the fiber bundles together is driven along the longitudinal direction, the protrusion of the fiber cutting means is inserted into the fiber bundle, thereby splitting a part of the fiber bundle. And, based on the positional information of the splice portion obtained by detecting the splice portion, there is provided a method for producing a partial fibrous fiber bundle in which the timing at which the splitting means inserts the fiber bundle is varied.
